CAI wants to establish a medical clinic in Sar Pol, Afghanistan along the lines of our successful clinic in Sacheck. Sar Pol is an acutely improverished area where there are no medical facilities whatsoever. Sever illnesses are given up on, women, especially expectant mothers suffer agonizing pain and children have no vaccination programs. The Sacheck program has been a learning experience for us but a great success as people have access to medical care for the first time in their lives. We will, insha'Allah, repeat this miracle in Sar Pol with your help.

Water is a major issue in Afghanistan and an overwhelming agony, especially for the children and women of Afghanistan who spend an inordinate time in its harvest. They brave severe elements and toil to carry drums of water great distances. It is heart wrenching to see young girl orphans spend all their time in this task when they should be in school creating an opportunity for a productive life. CAI has made possible many bore and deep water wells but the need is for many, many more. |

Bihar is the most poor and backward state in the union of India and minorities bear the brunt of this poverty and backwardness. There has been an urgent need for a boys orphanage in Bihar for the last 10 years. Unfortunately, no NGO or help agency wants to venture into areas so backward and basic. CAI will begin an orphanage as soon as funding is available and solicit your help.

Unfortunately, there are very few orphanages in India that cater for girl orphans so there is tremendous pressure on few existing ones, which have long waiting lists. CAI supports Sakina Girls Home in Mumbai that houses 77 girl orphans in a 2,100 sq ft area and cannot take anymore of hundreds that are in waiting. Work on the orphanage will begin very shortly and the orphans on waiting list accommodated.

There are no girl orphanages in Afghanistan although thousands of girl were orphaned due to the massacre by Talibaan. Many of these orphans have become virtual slaves to new fathers or relatives that care for them and there have also been reports of sexual abuse on a few. CAI is attempting to establish an orphanage along the lines of one established for boys in Heraat. As soon as funding is made available, CAI will begin housing these in a temporary shelter and then move to a custom built structure.

CAI regularly receives urgent appeals from poor or destitute for emergency medical surgery or treatment. Most of sadeqa funds we get goes towards this cause; however, the problem is huge and acute. Please help save a life.

People who make a difference:
Economic empowerment:
Syed Hassan Abbas works as a driver earning INR2,000 (USD43) per month, has 10 mouths to feed, including aged parents. CAI loaned him USD550 to purchase a water buffalo and his wife took care of her. The buff gave 12 liters of milk per day which she sold in the market. So successful is the business, Hassan paid off the loan 2 months in advance and wants to purchase 2 more buffs and wants a loan of USD1,100 to be paid off in 12 installments; this will probably be approved. From being a poor driver who was struggling to put food on the table, Hassan proudly sends off his children to school and pay the fees himself. YOU, the donors have made a difference! Meet Mr and Mrs. Abbas and their buff:

Education empowerment:
Meet Nooreen Faridi, a 19 year old from a poor family living in Sirsi. Nooreen's parents did not send her to school due to poverty. Fortunately, she qualified for a scholarship through generous donors of CAI and look at her now; some 12 years later. Nooreen works as a teacher in the same school she studied earning money that supports others in her family study. She has graduated CBSC and is currently studying towards BCOM. Had it not been for the scholarship, the only other choice for Nooreen was an early marriage and repeat of cycle of poverty. YOU, the donors have made a difference!
